~*At the age of eight*~

"Are you okay?" A voice ringed, belonging to a young boy. You looked up to see a boy your age, with ebony hair, big innocent brown hues, and silky porcelain skin. You immediately wiped away your tears, embarrassed that someone caught you crying.

"I-I can't find my mommy!" You continued to cry harder, feeling lost and lonely without your mother. The boy's eyes widened, feeling sad that you can't find your parents.

The boy wanted to confort you, but his personal space problem held him back.

The young boy suddenly had an idea.

"Eto...May I help you find your mother?" The young boy politely asked, giving her a small, yet warming smile. You abruptly stopped weeping, looking up at the boy with a pure suprised expression. You slowly began to happily gasp.

"Really?! Thank you so much..!" You stopped mid-sentence, remembering that you don't know the boy's name. The young boy chuckled.

"Kiku. Kiku Honda." He said, with a calm, soothing voice.

"Thank you Kiku! My name is ___," The young boy nodded.

"Shall we find your mother, ___-san?" He said, gesturing his hands, pointing to the sidewalk neaby. You nodded, hope in your (e/c) orbs.

"Hm!"

I can't sleep tonight
Wide awake and so confused
Everything's in line
But I'm bruised
I need a voice to echo
I need a light to take me home
I kinda need a hero
Is it you?

You told Kiku how she looked like, what she wore, and how tall she was.

"She has a blue jacket on, with brown furry boots. She also has a sky blue scarf on," You added, determined to find your mom. Kiku listened your every word, on the look out for a woman with a blue jacket, brown furry boots, and a sky blue scarf.

He did find woman, who had a very panicked expression. She looked like she was about to burst into tears. Kiku wondered if he could walk up to that woman and ask if you were the person she's looking for. He stopped in his tracks.

You our kept talking until you only heard your own footsteps. You gave him a confused expression. But when you trailed his gaze to that woman, you couldn't help but smile from ear to ear.

"MOMMY!" you cried, running to your now found mother and hugging her as hard as you could. She gasped in surprise, before hugging you as tight, tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.

"Oh ___! I was so worried about you! I thought you went missing! Don't you ever wander of again!" You mother lightly scolded, letting you go and pecking your cheek.

"But mommy, My new friend Kiku helped me find you! You should go thank him," You said, smiling of the thought of your new friend.

Your mother thanked Kiku in graditude, so happy that you were safe. Being the gentle boy he was, he politely replied with a small 'it was my pleasure' before turning around to walk home. Your eyes widened and ran to him, forgetting that you wanted to tell something.

"Kiku! Wait!" you shouted, reaching out your arm. Kiku peered over his shoulder, giving you a confused look.

"What is it, ___-san?" he asked.

"Can we meet here at this same park again, tomorrow?" you asked, hope and excitement in your eyes. He gave you a small smile.

"Of course, ___-san. I always go to this park, under the cherry blossom tree," he said, pointing to the not too far away beautiful tree. You grinned.

"Okay, see you tomorrow!"

I never see the forest for the trees
I could really use your melody
Baby I'm a little blind
I think it's time for you to find me

For the next few weeks, you and Kiku became the best of friends. You recently learned that he had personal space problems — either becoming too close to him or touching him. But you respected it, even though you wanted to hug him so badly.

Everyday, you and Kiku would sit under the cherry blossom tree, talking endlessly. He was your only friend — so you cherished every single moment with him, a smile gracing on your features as you thought about the Japanese boy.

"Kiku?" you said, your gaze averterting to the small boy. He turned his attention to you, giving you a slient signal that he was paying attention.

"Can you teach me some Japanese? I had always wanted to learn it. It's such a beautiful language," you said, grinning. Kiku gave to a suprised look, before giving you a small, yet sincere smile.

"I'm quite flattered that you think my mother language is beautiful, ___-san. And I would love to teach you," he turned his whole body and sat across you, adjusting slightly to feel more confortable. You smiled, clapping your hands together in excitment.

"Okay, Let's start!" Kiku chuckled softly at your enthusiasm. Your cheeks became warm, blushing at his actions.

"Wait wait wait! May you say 'goodnight' agian? It's hard to pronounce..." you sheeplishly said, biting your lip.

Kiku slowly repeated the foreign word agian, stopping at each syllable to make it more easier.

"Oyasuminasai...Oyasuminasai...!" your smile widened, repeating the word agian. You got up to your feet, jumping up and down in happiness. He chuckled, getting up as well.

"You did well, ___-san. I'm proud of you."

You stopped jumping, and instead, you glomped on him, sending you both to the ground.

"_-_-___-san!" he stuttered, his cheeks bright red from the sudden contact. You nuzzed your head in his torso.

"Oh Kiku, your such a dumbo..." you giggled, wrapping his arms around his back, making the Japanese boy gasp.

Can you be my nightingale?
Sing to me
I know you're there
You could be my sanity
Bring me peace
Sing me to sleep
Say you'll be my nightingale

But one day, it wasn't so happy anymore.

"___-san please, I need to talk to you. It's very important." he sternly said, but still gentle. You looked up at him, suprised.

"But Kiku, I want you to play with me, under the sakura tree! Like we always do. C'mon!" you hollered, taking his hand in your's and dragged him towards the shady spot of the cherry blossom tree. His eyes widened of the sudden touch, but shook his head, not wanting to think of his personal space.

"But _-___-san--"

"You can tell me later, let's go!"

"Please _--"

"Just tell me later! I really want to play!" you excitedly yelled, unaware that Kiku's patience was waning.

"___-san!" he suddenly shouted, pulling his hand away from your grip. You stopped in your tracks, eyes widening from his unexpected outbrust. You slowly peered over your shoulder.

Kiku panted, his cheeks bright ruby red. You just stood there, feeling ashamed and shocked at the same time. Kiku would never yell unless if it was something really really important...!

He finally regained his breath, looking up at you sadly.

"___-san...I'm so sorry to say this but...my family is moving back to my home country, Japan." he murmured, his voice laced with sadness, nervousness, and guilt.

You just stood there, face paling from the terrible news. Your mouth went agape, and your (e/c) orbs were so wide that you thought it looked like flying saucers.

"..."

Confused by your lack of reply, Kiku slowly looked up at you, to see tears rolling down your rosy cheeks. His coffee-colored orbs widened.

"I-I...don't want y-you to g-g-go..." you weeped, feeling completely overwhelmed that the thought of your best friend you ever had in the whole entire world was leaving to a foreign counrty that is so so far away...

The anguish was unbelievable, really.

You automatically ran to him, hugging him like it was the end of the world. Kiku hesitantly genly hugged you back, so faint that you couldn't feel his arms around your small body.

"___-san..." he even felt some tears prickling between his eyelashes. He pulled away, carfully taking both of your hands into his. You squeaked.

"I wanted to give you this when I'm gone for...who knows what..." he took one of your hands, placing a gold-chained cherry blossom pendant that had a pearl in the middle. Here: img1.etsystatic.com/038/1/9423…

You sobbed harder, taking the beautiful necklace and placed it over your heart.

"I.. I don't know what to say..." you mumured, staring at it's beautiful design. He didn't have to, he really didn't...

"I will miss you, ___..." he sighed, slowly backing away, both of your hands still interwinded.

"I'll miss you more, Kiku-chan...Thank you for being there for me, just everything..."

He smiled, a real smile that made you . He let go of your hands, and slowly walked away, saying one more thing;

"I'll miss you most..."

Somebody speak to me
Cause I'm feeling like hell
Need you to answer me
I'm overwhelmed
I need a voice to echo
I need a light to take me home
I need a star to follow
I don't know

~*Thirteen years later*~

'I hope it won't rain...' you thought, worry evident in your eyes. You just finished picking out fruits and vegetables at the local market, and it looks really bad out.

Sighing, you slowly walked out of the market, gripping the bags in both hands.

'Darn it. I wish I had an umbrella. God, I'm such an idiot for not checking the weather first!' you facepalmed, clearly displeased with yourself. So you lightly jogged along the sidewalk.

But you cursed under your breath when you felt something wet rolling down your cheek.

But the worst thing is that your house is three miles away.

So you ran as quickly as you can, hoping that your groceries don't get wet. It started to rain harder, enough for you to feel your hair soaking in the translucent liquid.

Minutes past, and you are completely soaked. You clothes are slightly heavy due to taking in rain, and your shoes squeak every time you took a step.

You slowly stopped, and look up to see a man with midnight black hair, and coffee brown orbs. He held up an umbrella over your head. You look at him, a blush dusting on your cheeks. He looked very familiar to someone you met long time ago...

"Are you alright miss? I see you don't have an umbrella with you," he noted, a worry laced in his voice. You hung your head down in embarrassment.

I never see the forest for the trees
I could really use your melody
Baby I'm a little blind
I think it's time for you to find me

"T-thank you... No need to worry, I'm just a little wet, that's all..." you shyly said, not facing him. You see, you were always shy around people, especially boys. The man chuckled lightly.

"But I don't want you to get sick. And you have groceries with you, you don't want them wet, don't you?"

Good point.

"No..."

"Then I'll walk you to my home where you can stay until the rain dies down. I insist," he kindly offered. Your eyes widened at his generosity.

"It's fine! I don't want to burden you," an airy laugh escaped your lips, scratching your head with your index finger. He shook his head.

"Please, I don't want you to get a cold, and I don't want to get your things wet either." you sighed, a smile formed on your rosy lips.

"Thank you,"

~*Time Skip!*~ (^。^)

You went inside his home, and you immediately took off your shoes, and neatly planted them in the corner. His house is very beautiful, yet it was simple at the same time. It had this Japanese-ish aura around it...

You can't help but have a feeling you met this person before.

You followed him as he opened the sliding door, revealing a kotatsu.

He gestured his hand towards the small table, signaling you to sit down. You obliged. He sat across from you, sitting on his knees.

"I want to say thank you, again. It was very kind of you to let a stranger come inside your home." you chuckled, a small pink hue glued on your cheeks. He nodded slowly.

"Of course. I don't want anyone to get sick, and you didn't have an umbrella with you."

"A-ahh.." you laughed nervously, mentally scolding yourself to bring an umbrella with you in case it rains!

Silence.

"What about I make some tea to warm you up," he stood up and walked out of the room. You laid your head on the wooden table, closing your eyes. Something about him was so familiar, but you can't make out who it was. Your hand reached towards the sakura necklace Kiku gave you.

You never took that necklace off. It was your most prized possession, because all the memories lay in that pendant. You started to doze off, and at that, you fell asleep...

I don't know what I'd do without you
Your words are like a whisper cutting through
As long as you are with me here tonight
I'm good

Kiku walked in ten minutes later with a tray of hot steaming tea.

But he stopped in his tracks to see you sleeping soundly on the wooden table. Placing the tray onto the table, he sat across from you, no too close to burst his personal space bubble.

Something pink caught his eye when he scanned his eyes around your sleeping form. It was sprawled out on the table, so he gently and slowly picked the pink object, to see it was a cherry blossom pendant that look oh so familiar to him...

Curious brown orbs starred intensely on the beautiful pendant, and a wave of realization hit him like weapons.

Images of you popped in his mind. He remembered your smile, your hair, your sweet voice, and your warmth. He also remembered  you would also invade his personal space. And the time he left you upset that he was leaving to Japan.

As a he gasped quietly, his eyes softened and a hesitant hand reached out to stroke your (h/c) locks. A loving smile formed at the corners of his mouth, so happy to see this lost friend and hatsukoi.

So he placed a hand on your shoulder, and gently shook you.

"___-san... ___-san..." he gently spoke out your name, slightly making you stir in your sleepy state.

Eventually, your eyes slowly open, blinking rapidly because of light invading through your eyes.

"W-what...?" your murmured, sitting up and wiping some drool running down your chin. Kiku chuckled.

"Did you sleep well, ___-chan?" he gently spoke, a charming smile plastered on his lips. Your eyes widened.

"H-how did you know my name?" you squeaked out. How did this stranger know you? Unless he was...

Wait...

"K-Kiku..?" you shakily said, eyeing him with wide eyes. He nodded shyly, his cheeks growing warm. A broad grin spreaded on your lips, and you glomped him to the ground, making him fall back.

"Oh Kiku-chan! I m-missed you so much!" you sobbed, holding him so tight that he hardly can breathe. Kiku hesitantly hugged you back, hugging you as tight.

"___-chan...I missed you so much," he whispered, placing his chin ontop of your shoulder.

Neither of you wanted to let go.

You pulled back slightly, so that you were facing him. Kiku was red all over.

Just like the old days.

"I thought I would never see you again..." you said, eyes drooping.

"Same here, ___-san..."

Can you be my nightingale?
Feels so close
I know you're there
Oh, nightingale
Sing to me
I know you're there
'Cause baby you're my sanity
You bring me peace
Sing me to sleep

Both of you talked for hours, though it felt like minutes. You were on Cloud 9, and you couldn't be anymore happier than you already are. Kiku might look calm and collected inside, but he is so trilled to see you, and he has been wait to say this...

"D-Daisuki, ___-chan..." he closed his eyes shut, waiting for a rejection or a slap. But he felt suprised when he got a peck on the cheek. You giggled.

"I love you too, Kiku-chan. I remember you taught me that word when I was still young,"

Kiku smiled, a beautiful smile that can make any girl faint. You blushed a deep ruby red.

Then he did something that made your world spin.

He placed his gentle lips on yours, placing his slightly shaking hand on your cheek, caressing it softly. You slowly kissed back, eyes half-lidded.

Both of you parted, panting from the 'moment' you and your Kiku-chan just had. You spoke out a sentence that made Kiku overjoyed.

"Promise me you'll never leave my side?" you asked, hope in your crystal (e/c) orbs. Kiku hugged you softly.

"I promise,"

Say you'll be my nightingale
